On this episode of the Pharmacy View podcast, our guest is managing partner from Chemist Discount Centre in Endeavour Hills – Pharmacist Kavita Nadan. During the episode, Kavita discusses the future of Pharmacy innovation and the importance of keeping an open mind and being receptive to change as it comes.
Kavita discusses her background and how she developed a passion for the intersection of IT in the Pharmacy space. Using the example of how Netflix disrupted the marketplace, Kavita explains how the future of and evolution of Pharmacy operations requires an open mind and the ability to be more comfortable with taking risks. By necessity Pharmacists are naturally risk adverse, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing in that profession but in order for the profession to evolve there has to be room for new ideas and unexpected challenges and failures.
One example of this came to the forefront recently as COVID-19 posed new challenges for helping patients. Kavita explains how e-scripts are developing and have the potential to increase privacy for patients as well as become more reliable than traditional faxes. It’s a work in progress but a good Pharmacist can find a way to overcome those problems and challenges that arrive in order to deliver a better patient experience. As she writes in her blog, Kavita believes the future is now, and in order to move forward as a profession we really need to start thinking this way and embracing it instead of maintaining the status quo.
